I’ve always been interested in the gap between who we think we are and who we turn out to be when nobody’s watching. That’s usually where the interesting stories begin.

I write creative nonfiction because real life is strange enough without inventing anything. My essays are personal, occasionally uncomfortable, sometimes funny, and often concerned with the contradictions we spend so much time trying to explain away.

I’m particularly interested in the things people are reluctant to admit: the relationships that make no sense, the beliefs we’ve outgrown, the versions of ourselves we miss, and the decisions that seemed perfectly reasonable at the time.

I don’t write because I’ve figured everything out. I write because I haven’t, and because there’s something fascinating about examining the evidence.
